Builder.
Educator.
Veteran.
I build apps that make somebody's job easier. Sometimes that somebody is me.
01 — About
After 15 years of teaching middle school math, I've spent most of my career in 7th grade, 8th grade, and Algebra 1 classrooms in Miami-Dade County Public Schools. Before that, I served in the Navy as an Aviation Ordnance specialist. That's where I learned attention to detail, and how to work with different types of people to achieve one goal. A few years ago, I went back to school because I wanted something more than being a classroom teacher. Now I'm finishing a bachelor's in Applied AI and Data Analytics at Miami Dade College, and along the way I earned my AWS Solutions Architect, AWS Developer, and CompTIA A+ certifications.
The reason I started building is because I watched teachers, including myself, drown in data we didn't have time to clean. We have students to teach. We don't have time to learn new tools just to read a spreadsheet. So I built MathInsight to see if the app could produce reports like I was making them manually. After building it, I noticed it was good, but it opened the door to other things. What else can I make to make my job easier? The more I built things, the more I realized I enjoyed the work, and it made me think differently. Turns out telling a computer what you want is a lot like teaching. You have to be specific or it doesn't work.
What I want now is a job where I can build something that helps other people do their job better. I am very resourceful. If I don't know something, I find out.
Math people love solving problems.
02 — Projects
Four tools, built
to make things easier.
SmartWrangle 2.0
SmartWrangle 2.0 helps you understand the data you have and how to clean it. It uses simple terms, you can visualize after every cleaning step, and if you don't like the result you can undo it. Works on any dataset.
MathInsight AI
Upload your student data and MathInsight gives you back the kind of report you'd write manually. It shows growth overall and across subgroups, and it can make small groups so you know who needs more help.
Tutor Module
Built for MDC students who struggle with their classes but don't have time to get a tutor. Ask it a question and it walks you through the problem step by step. If something doesn't click, you can ask for clarification or another example.
Employee Attrition Analysis
Three different machine learning techniques on data from 1,470 employees, all pointing to overtime as the main reason people quit. But overtime wasn't evenly spread. Sales Representatives and Laboratory Technicians had the most of it, and the most attrition. A company that wants to keep workers should start there.
